The umpteenth story that has as its victims helpless animals: slide once the ban on testing cosmetics. October 12, 2010

Although the European Commission Health and Consumer Affairs states that in March 2013 triggered a ban on testing cosmetic animal, we could hardly believe it. And we do not have a point: The first call was set in 1998, then in 2000 and again in 2002. Today we talk of 2013.

How long will it still pass? How many animals

will still suffer?

If the law is unsatisfactory, many cosmetics companies have taken the ethical decision not to test their products on animals
.

How to recognize a cream, a shampoo or a cruelty-free mascara? Theoretically, a product

cruelty free means 'not tested on animals' ECEAE (European Coalition to End Animal Experiments). Yet there were many doubts, 'product not tested on animals' means that the ingredients that make up not tested on animals? The doubts remain.

According to Dr. Antonio de Paula,

author of the Guide to products not tested on animals

(ed. Cosmopolis) and active supporter of the rights of animals

, is the consumer who has the knife from the handle. In the presentation form of the text states that " Learn to recognize the products that are not cost pain and death to thousands of animals is very important for can make informed choices and steer the world's production in the direction we wanted. This is the purpose of the Guide: to provide a critical tool to encourage consumer organizations to continue in this direction and give a strong signal to those who have to legislate to put an end once and for all a practice that condemns the one hand to heinous torture animals were not protected in any way other human beings but only the interests of multinational corporations. In the text, a handy mini-guide to cut out and take with you, to always know which products to choose .

2013 Cosmetics testing public consultation response

In 2003, the EU Cosmetics Directive was amended to ban the sale of cosmetics containing ingredients tested on animals from 2009 for all but three types of animal test and from 2013 for the remaining animal tests (repeat dose toxicity, toxicokinetics and reproductive toxicity).

I wish to express my dismay that: This consultation appears to be concerned primarily with technical aspects of the development of alternatives to animal tests rather than with the views of EU citizens – the campaign to end animal testing of cosmetics ingredients has been running for decades and has widespread public support, but the consultation largely ignores this The draft report for consultation includes other tests in addition to the three tests for which the ban is not scheduled to take effect until 2013 – the sale of cosmetics containing ingredients that have undergone animal testing in these other areas is already prohibited under EU legislation and should not be part of this consultation.

I believe that the 2013 ban should be maintained irrespective of the availability of alternative testing methods. There are already thousands of cosmetics ingredients available that have been shown to be safe. The development of new cosmetics does not justify the suffering caused to animals. Any delay in enforcement of the 2013 ban will destroy my faith in the ability of EU decision makers to listen to the views of citizens.

I call on you to:

1) Ensure that the 2009 ban is properly enforced;

2) Ensure that the 2013 ban is implemented without delay
